The 10 fastest cars in the world
Speed is in your blood and you are also in more than just a good financial position? A "normal" sports car is too boring for you? Even a super sports car doesn't appeal to you? Then the fastest cars in the world could be worth considering. But which models are actually the fastest cars in the world at the moment?
There are quite a few cars beyond the 400 km/h limit, some even manage 450 km/h with extreme engineering and all the aerodynamic tricks. Of course, this also comes at a price – but if that doesn't bother you, all the better.
If you are also looking for fast e-cars, we also have the fastest road-legal electric cars for you here.
Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut – more than 500 km/h (in theory)
Koenigsegg has a well-deserved reputation for building absurd hypercars, and the Jesko Absolut is likely to be the pinnacle of ambition. This is ensured by a biturbo eight-cylinder engine with 1,600 hp, up to 1500 Nm of torque and acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 2.5 seconds.
The Swedish carmaker says that more than 500 km/h is absolutely possible with the Jesko, but in fact it has not yet brought this power to the track. Instead, the speed is based on the calculations and computer simulations of the engineers. Whether the Jesko Absolut can really crack the magic 500 km/h will only become clear in the future.
2. Bugatti Chiron Supersport 300+ – 490 km/h
Bugatti is one of the brands that is always at the forefront of the discussion about the fastest car in the world. In the past, the legendary Bugatti Veyron was the fastest car in the world. The Chiron Supersport 300+ is in the tradition of the Veyron and has an 8.0-liter four-turbo 16-cylinder engine installed with 1,600 hp.
The Chiron Supersport 300+ has "only" 440 km/h as its top speed, but on the test drive on August 2, 2019 at the Volkswagen site in Ehra-Lessien, racing driver Andy Wallace managed to drive 490 km/h. Close to the 500 km/h limit. However, a successor to the Chiron is already in the works, the Bugatti Tourbillon. This also comes with 16 cylinders, but as a hybrid it manages the output of 1,800 hp. Whether the tourbillon is even faster will become clear when sales start.
3. SSC Tuatara – 474 km/h
Although the 16-cylinder from Bugatti is an impressive piece of technology, sometimes a "simple" biturbo eight-cylinder is enough for impressive performance. With 1,774 hp and 1413 Nm of torque, the Tuatara was already close to the title of the fastest car.
In October 2020, the manufacturer had already announced that the Tuatara had actually managed 508 km/h, making it the fastest car in the world. Later, however, SSC had to admit that it was a GPS error in the measurement. In further tests in 2022, the Tuatara achieved a top speed of 474 km/h, which is not quite the top but still 3rd place.
4. Bugatti W16 Mistral – 454 km/h
With an incredible 454 km/h, the Bugatti W16 Mistral has set a new record – it is the fastest convertible of all time! This is due to four turbochargers and a displacement of eight liters and 1,600 hp of power. But it is not only far ahead in terms of speed and power, but also in terms of craftsmanship and luxury.
The Mistral is also special because it is the last model to be powered by the brand's W16 engine.
5. Koenigsegg Agera RS – 447 km/h
It was on November 4, 2017 that the Agera RS set a world record for the top speed of a homologated production vehicle on a public road. Until the Bugatti Chiron Supersport 300+ was able to beat it. With 1,160 hp, it is still incredibly powerful and only available to people with exquisite taste and a packed wallet.
The hardtop can be removed and the Koenigsegg can be transformed into a convertible – practical.
6. Hennessey Venom F5 – 437 km/h
As the American representative in the hypercars, Hennessey's Venom F5 ranks in 4th place. The super sports car is powered by a 6.6-liter biturbo eight-cylinder engine with 1,871 hp and 1,671 Nm of torque.
This means that the Hennessey Venom F5 has already reached the previous record of 437 km/h. But this is not enough for the engineers, with a gear shift that is designed for up to 534 km/h, the Americans have firmly set the 500 km/h mark for themselves. We are curious to see if they succeed.
7. Bugatti Veyron Super Sport – 431 km/h
1,200 hp, 1,500 Nm of torque, W16 engine – these are the technical data of the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. The super sports car drives at an impressive 431 km/h and its exterior is also designed purely for efficiency.
The flat, elongated shape and the ventilation ducts in the roof show that we are dealing with an aerodynamically perfectly built vehicle.
8. Hennessey Venom GT Spyder – 427 km/h
Before the Mistral took over its place, the Venom GT Spyder was the fastest convertible at 427 km/h – albeit only unofficially. A whopping 1,451 hp of power is under the hood and an 8-liter twin-turbo V7 brings 1,745 Nm of torque.
It takes just 2.4 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h – and only 13 seconds from 320 km/h. These are impressive figures.
9. Bugatti Chiron – 420 km/h
The last of a total of 500 handmade Chirons was recently delivered – so the era of the Chiron is coming to an end. Nevertheless, it must be said that it is one of the fastest cars in the world - 1,500 hp of power and 1,600 Nm of maximum torque confirm this.
Its successor is expected to break further records, but a whopping 420 km/h top speed is also an excellent achievement.
10. Rimac Nevera – 412 km/h
In 10th place is the Rimac Nevera, the first electric hypercar. With the instant acceleration of an electric motor, the sprint values of the electric supercars are good, but the extra weight of the battery often makes for lower top speeds. However, this is not the case with the Rimac Nevera.
With four electric motors, the Nevera has an output of 1,914 hp and a torque of 2,300 Nm. It sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 1.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 412 km/h. Despite this design, however, the Nevera is a comfortable hypercar with an elaborate interior. At a price of around 2 million euros, this is hardly surprising.
The Fastest Cars in the World – Frequently Asked Questions
If you still have questions about the fastest cars in the world, then we have the answers here.
What is the fastest production vehicle in the world?
On paper, this honour goes to the Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut and its speed of over 500 km/h. But in reality, the Jesko Absolut has not yet driven that fast. Until it achieves this feat, the Bugatti Chiron Supersport 300+ will continue to deserve the title of "Fastest Car in the World". The Bugatti already managed 490 km/h.
Which car accelerates the fastest from 0 to 100 km/h?
The fastest acceleration is the Rimac Nevera. It takes just 1.8 seconds to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h.
What is the highest speed ever driven by a car?
For production vehicles, the record is 490 km/h in the Bugatti Chiron Supersport 300+. Andy Wallace drove this record. The fastest speed ever achieved by a car is an incredible 1,227 km/h, beyond the sound barrier. On October 15, 1997, Andy Green achieved the record drive with the ThrustSSC, a jet-powered prototype. So far from a production car.
